SANTA ANA - The Dons wasted little time to get to the second round of the CCCAA Baseball Southern Regional Playoffs with their 6-1 win over Long Beach City College, completing the sweep with a game that lasted just over two hours.
Not only did the game go quickly, but the Dons also wasted no time to open scoring with Joshua Vargas reaching on a lead-off walk before moving to third on Alex Mascarena's double. Vargas came in to score in the next at bat on Ryan Aguilar's sacrifice fly before Mascarenas scored on a RBI-single by Daniel Martinez, Jr., giving the Dons an early 2-0 lead.
The Vikings got one run back in the bottom of the first with Ryan Dickison reaching on a single before moving to third on a double by Nolan Flashman. An error on that played allowed Dickison to score, cutting the lead to 2-1.
However, that would be the only run for the Vikings as the Dons pitching staff would let just one batter past second base for the remainder of the game.
The Dons offense added on three runs in the third with Martinez singling in Mascarenas before Garret Brown scored on a wild pitch. The third run was scored by Martinez on a RBI-single by Nestor Linares.
Linares scored the Dons final run of the game when he reached on an error in the fifth inning before stealing second and ultimately coming in to home on Frankie Nogales' RBI-single to right field.
On the mound, the Dons were led by Evanne Wilkes (4-1) who recored his second win of the season over Long Beach. Wilkes held the Vikings to just one unearned run on four hits over seven inning. Manuel Barragan (6-2) took the loss as he allowed five runs on five hits in just three innings.
