Scholarship Winners and Class of 2010 Announced
The Santa Ana College (SAC) Athletic Hall of Fame hosted the 2010 Ed Arnold Golf Classic on Monday, May 17 at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) Athletic Hall of Fame hosted the 2010 Ed Arnold Golf Classic on Monday, May 17 at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach.
Among the 140 golfers were Athletic Hall of Fame members Dave Alexander, Ray Carrasco, Dana Pagett, Mike Schwabe and Nancy Warren.
Also playing in the tournament were former Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo, former Dodgers catcher Jim Campanis and Sacramento Kings head coach Paul Westphal.
Following the tournament, golfers stayed for the awards dinner hosted by SAC-alum Ed Arnold. During the dinner, six student-athlete scholarships were awarded, the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2010 was announced and a a live and silent auction were held to raise money for the Athletic Hall of Fame.
The student-athlete scholarships were awarded to Jessika Korzelius (women's basketball, Female Scholar Athlete of the Year), Sean Kurtz (football, Male Scholar Athlete of the Year), Katlyn Harp (softball), Cortnee Kleidon (women's soccer, track & field), Jose Navarro (wrestling) and Johnny Privitelli (football).
Headlining the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2010 was former Dons football player Frank Andruski, baseball standout Heath Bell, men's basketball coach Rolland Todd and two-sport star from softball and women's soccer, Ana Velazquez.
The Hall of Fame will also be inducting Ken Purcell as the Athletic Hall of Fame Executive Committee Honoree for Meritorious Service, an honor that has been given to former sportswriters Eddie West and Carl Sawyer as well as tournament host Ed Arnold.
The Athletic Hall of Fame has also added a new category to honor the great team's in Santa Ana College's rich history. The first team to be honored will be a combination of the 1940 and 1942 National Championship football teams.

In 2003, the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Classic,
was renamed the Ed Arnold Golf Classic in honor of Santa Ana
College Hall of Fame member (1980), Santa Ana College Athletic Hall
of Fame Member (2009) and Orange and Los Angeles Counties
broadcasting legend Ed Arnold.
Following his tour of duty with the United States Marine Corp, in 1966, Arnold graduated from Santa Ana College where he earned an associate of arts degree in business and played football for the Dons before transferring to California State University, Long Beach to earn his bachelor's degree in broadcasting.
The tournament is a four-person, team-scramble format with awards being presented to flight champions and winners of the closest-to-the pin, longest drive and putting contests.
Proceeds from the tournament will support the continued development of the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame and provide scholarships to transferring Santa Ana College student-athletes. The Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame honors former student-athletes, coaches and special contributors who have distinguished themselves throughout the 95-year history of the college.
