SANTA ANA- The Dons saw their 2016-17 regular season come to a close with a 79-66 loss to Cypress College. With the loss, the Dons overall record drops to 15-13 while their Orange Empire Conference record falls to 5-7, placing them in fourth place with Orange Coast College. Cypress College improved to 23-6 overall with the win and 11-1 in the OEC to finish first overall.
The Dons jumped out quick with a 7-1 run to take control of the game early before pulling away to a 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, Santa Ana was down by two points at 35-32 before the Chargers outscored the Dons 21-12 in the third quarter. Finally, the Chargers kept their lead in fourth quarter to take the 79-66 OEC win.
Sophomore Blaysen Varnadoe led the Dons with 26 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Sophomore Taylor Ivicevic added 12 points to the board with five rebounds.
