Dons Pick up Pair of Wins over Rio Hondo and Riverside
Both matches were won by the Dons 3-2 with the victory over Riverside coming in an Orange Empire Conference match.
The Dons enjoyed two victories on the beach in their host match against Riverside City College and Rio Hondo College. Playing at Huntington Beach, the Dons posted a pair of 3-2 victories over Riverside and Rio Hondo to improve to 3-5 on the season.
The Dons #2 pairing won both of its matches with Myriah Kunipo-Aguirre and Michelle Nguyen defeating Riverside's #2 21-15 and 21-17 before defeating Rio Hondo's #2 21-13 and 21-8.
The pairing of Madison Logan and Alejandrina Alejandro also posted two wins, including an exciting come-from-behind victory over Riverside's #3 pairing. With the overall match tied at 2-2, Logan and Alejandro found themselves down 0-1 after losing the first set 21-13.
But the duo came back with a 21-17 win in the second set to force a winner-take-all third set. Riverside was in position to win the set, and the match, as the Tigers tandem forced match point at 14-7, but Logan and Alejandro rallied back to win the set, and the match, with a final score of 17-15. The pair followed that with another three-set win, this time defeating Rio Hondo's #4 pairing 18-21, 21-6, 15-11.
In the match with Riverside, Alix Rodriguez and Jenny Lopez had the third win for the Dons as they defeated the Tigers #5 pairing 21-14, 25-23. The third win against Rio Hondo came in the #3 pairing with Chloe Anderson and Trinh Ngoc Nguyen winning 21-18, 21-18.
