SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana women's cross country team finished 10th out of 34 teams while the men placed 12th against 35 in the 2018 SoCal Previews held at Cerritos Regional Park on Friday.
It was the first chance the Dons could see how they matched up against teams on their level, as they primarily competed against universities in their opening meet last week.
Maria Marroquin led the Don women with their fastest time for the second consecutive meet, placing 26th overall in the 5K with a time of 19:56.4. Right behind her once again was Lucero Torres Calderon, who finished 32nd at 20:13.1. The team posted an average time of 21:23 with a team time of 1:46.57 and a score of 272.
Santa Ana's men got a big boost from Dalton Aviles, who showed great improvement, coming in first for the Dons. The sophomore from Anaheim High clocked in at 20:39.2 for a 13th place finish. Giovanni Barajas was the second man in for the Dons with a time of 21:24.8 for 57th overall and Servando Aviles stayed in the top 90, finishing 86th at 21:50.2. The Dons' average time was 21:41 with a team time of 1:48.27, giving them a score of 338.
Next week, Santa Ana will head to Huntington Beach Central Park for the Golden West Invite on Friday, September 21st.
