No. 20 Dons Fall Short of Upset Bid with 91-89 Loss to No. 13 ELAC
No. 20 seeded Santa Ana fell to No. 13 East LA in regionals for the second straight season.
MONTEREY PARK, Calif - The Santa Ana College men's basketball team fell to the East Los Angeles Huskies (19-9, 9-1) in the 3C2A Regionals for the second consecutive season after conceding a 14 point second half lead in a 91-89 loss.
SAC (20-9, 6-8) gave themselves a chance with a great shooting night as they finished with a field goal percentage of 50 percent while also shooting 48.4 percent from three (15-31).
Aaron De Santiago led the Dons with 26 points (7-12 3PM-A) to go with six rebounds and three assists. Cameron Swist added 17 on 6-of-13 shooting while Christien Jimenez scored 11 with just as many assists for a double-double.
The Dons also saw Joshua Garland join them in double figures with 12 points and five boards in addition to Kelvin Paul posting eight points and four rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
Although Santa Ana had one of their best shooting games in the second half of season, history repeated itself as the Huskies dominated the paint, outrebounding the Dons 46-29.
The Huskies not only got five more shots as a team but also went to the line 29 times compared to just nine for SAC.
Santa Ana finished the season with 20 wins for the first time since the 2006-07 season while qualifying for regionals for the second straight season. The Dons are set to bring back the majority of the roster next year.
