Strong Defensive Play Lifts Dons over Fullerton
The Dons scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning as they extended their winning streak to four games.
SANTA ANA - The Dons extended their win streak to four games with a 1-0 victory over Fullerton College in an Orange Empire Conference game. The win improves the Dons to 11-16 overall and 6-7 in conference, just a half game behind Fullerton (16-12, 6-6) for third place.
The game was controlled by the two starting pitchers as SAC's Hattie Marshall (3-5) allowed just three hits and Fullerton's Brigid Ruiz (16-11) allowed four. Marshall also got a strong defensive performance behind her, to go along with her three strikeouts.
The lone run of the game came across in the fifth inning with Alexandra Hernandez scoring on a two-out single by Desiree Hernandez. Alexandra Hernandez reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice before going to third on a single by Karina Munoz.
Fullerton's best scoring opportunity came in the first inning when the Hornets put runners on the corners before Marshall induced an inning-ending groundout. Following that, the Hornets managed just one baserunner past first base for the remainder of the game.
