Lopez Wins Women's Race, Garcia Takes Second in Men's at Palomar
Toni Lopez was the overall winner of the women's race at the Palomar Invitational while Geovany Garcia took second in the men's race.
The men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2015 season on a high note at the Palomar Invitational as the women took second place while the men finished in fourth place. Overall, the women boasted the race's top runner while the men placed three runners in the top-10, including second place.
Toni Lopez was the overall winner of the women's race as she finished more than a minute ahead of her nearest opponent. She was joined in the top-10 by Ana Diaz who turned in a sixth place time. Angie Gomez followed in 17th place, just ahead of teammate Liz Luciano who finished in 19th place. Maria Baez rounded out the Dons scoring as she crossed the finish line in 22nd place.
As a team, the Dons were edged by Orange Empire Conference opponenet Orange Coast College as the Pirates had a team score of 48 points compared to the Dons with 65 points. El Camino College followed in third place with Santiago Canyon College and Palomar College rounding out the top-five.
On the men's side, the Dons had a trio of runners in the top-10 led by Geovany Garcia who finished second overall. Paulino Sanchez followed in seventh place and Ramiro Santos came in 10th place. Brian Ambrocio was next across the finish line in 30th place and Edwin Ortiz-Lopez finished 33rd.
The team's fourth-place finish came behind first place Cuyamaca College, second place Saddleback College and third place Orange Coast College. Following the Dons in fifth place was West Los Angeles College.
